Huila Decaf - Detour Coffee Roasters (Hamilton, ON)

Back in 2009, in the small town of Dundas, Ontario, Kaelin McCowan took a detour from the ordinary and turned his coffee obsession into a full-blown roasting adventure. What started as a passion project quickly became a beacon for good vibes, fun, and seriously tasty coffee. By 2015, his friend (and now Co-Director of Coffee) Ryan McCabe hopped on board, drawn to Detour’s “source as directly as possible” ethos. Fast-forward 14 years: Detour’s now rocking four cafés, their sister café Dark Horse Espresso Bar is serving up coffee at eight spots, and their bakery arm Dear Grain Bread is keeping Ontario buttery and well-fed. Oh, and you can spot their beans in cafés all across Canada—proof that following your passion can be a pretty delicious career move.
