This design combats a common issue with cone-shaped pour-overs: unwanted bypass water (note: some brew guides call for bypass water to dilute a concentrated recipe; you've likely seen this in an AeroPress recipe. With the Ticolate, we are trying to avoid unwanted bypass water). 

What is bypass water, and why does it matter? 

Bypass water is the water that gets behind the filter when you are brewing and drips into the cup without passing through the coffee bed. This causes less water to pass through the coffee, resulting in an under-extracted brew. But, The Tricolate's cylindrical design ensures that all the water must pass through the coffee before dripping into the carafe, thus eliminating unwanted bypass water and providing a high extraction. 

Second is the dispersion screen!

The brewer's unique design includes a dispersion screen 3.5 inches above the brew bed for you to pour the water through. This screen controls the height and speed of the pour, so even without a gooseneck kettle or a steady hand, the water is evenly dispersed at a consistent flow rate, ensuring an even and high extraction. It also allows for an efficient bloom by evenly saturating all grinds without stirring. 

The Tricolate Brewer is Australian-built from BPA-free Tritan plastic, which is extremely durable and gives your brew heat stability. The German-manufactured Tricolate Filter Papers have a consistent pore structure, allowing the flat coffee bed to extract evenly. The Tricolate also requires a smaller filter than other pour-over methods, allowing for less paper taint in the brew.
